Sign sign Sign

More signs of the times in Canyon Country.

The ubiquitous "No Trespassing".  Not that there is a there there to trespass upon.  Forgive us our trespasses.

Hmm.  Can't quite make out the missing letters.  Could this be ... a SwiNE club?  Or perhaps a SwiNGER's club? Or a SwiTCH club?   I know.  It's a SwiPE club.

I love it when plants come with instructions.  This appears to tell you exactly what plant people love to cut.  The Agave is used to make Tequila.  Couldn't tell you if this is why people come by to cut this plant.  Notice the primary message is in Spanish, only then is it in English?  This may be the only sign in Canyon Country where the Spanish is on top and the English is underneath.  And the English is italicized.  What's up with that?

Signage comes in many forms.  This is no doubt gang-member-ese for "Water Source For Cooling Off During Hot Weather".

Meg 2010.  A New California.

Signs without words.  RIP.

Fallen soldier.

No dumping, except on gays.

Vegetable matter

Variegated vegetables vast and venomous.  Except not venomous.  Some vast, some small.

Different textures, different colors.

One texture from the previous photo.  With haphazard shadows.

Majestic old dead oak.  As distinct from a "live oak".

She's not there.  Photo of paired trees.  No, not pear trees.

To the ridiculous.  Dandylion wine.

Don't cut me down.

The hoary steppes of central Canyon Country.

Imprisoned objects and a rock

Objects in close proximity to the chain link fence.

Very clever of the owner to attach a cup to the fence.  In case the prisoners are thirsty, they will be able to drink.

Rock of ages, cry thyself to sleep, imprisoned behind hurricane fencing.

Rusty ole can, ole boy.

Yes, you're shiny now, but take a look at rusty above and see what destiny awaits you!

Rock tableau.

Every Litter Bit Helps

Litter is ubiquitous.  Libitquitous?  All over.  I feel like a forensic litter-ologist, identifying bags and where they came from; bottles and who made them; found objects and someone to name them.

A generic small trash bag.  Inflated by the wind and flapping wildly.

Who's got the power?

Sobe on grass.  Sounds like a delicacy.

The winning ticket.

The wind blows strong in Canyon Country.  Picture the fridge, tucked away in a corner of the garage: door opening and closing, snapping in the wind.  Suddenly, a gust flings the ice tray out the door, out of the garage, and down the street, out to this lee spot out of the gale-force wind.  Save the poor ice cubes left to melt in the sun.

Rite AID tied on to the branch and inflated by the wind.  Notice how twigs love to play with grocery bags?

Even though this one doesn't have a visible name, the color suggests that it belongs to Vons.

A perfectly good roll of sheet plastic.  Available for painting and other odd jobs.  Still in fresh condition.

Fences

Fences for making good neighbors.

Okay, and the occasional bad fence making for a bad neighbor.

Its important to keep this tree and water runoff canal fenced away from all God-fearing folk.  Wonder what crime they committed?

White picket fencing.  Helps to keep the buffalo in the yard on the left.

Ah wood.

Chain link, up close and impersonal.

Random favorite shots

Some random pictures that didn't fit in any other category that I liked for some reason or other.

Peeling tree bole.

Pipes.

Story in mud.

Hazardous Waste.  Not the greatest picture, but who stores Big barrels of hazardous waste out back behind the liquor store?  And leaves the top off so the air can get in.  At least they kindly labeled them properly.

Retaining wall.  If this blog stops, it's because this wall fall fell down on me.

Bird rest stop.

Entrance to Hades.

Exotic pile of sand.

R2 at his day job.

Buildings in Canyon Country

Some buildings around Canyon Country.

In-n-Out and U-Haul and a fence and some mountains.

Thai Food and Liquor

Non-mobile mobile homes.

Hidden hide-away

Rock house.  Complete with toys.
