Photographs of lights and lampposts floating around UCLA.
Lamp post silhouette in front of the transportation services castle.
Ackerman castle behind a street light.
The lights are on your left, those circles in the wall. The red sand walk way rotates; as you walk forward, it spins behind you. If you don't walk fast enough, it will crush you. Don't ask me why the factor building is pointing sideways on the mid-lower right of the picture.
ET C3PIO early predecessor.
Light on in middle of day. This canyon is so dark the light thinks it is night time.
Neighbor lamp to the previous picture. Stand tall young lamp, stand tall.

Oddities on a College Campus
College campuses in particular have lots of creative folk doing creative things. And this leads to lots of oddities lying around campus for us to photograph. Here are a smattering of odds and ends lying around UCLA.
This is a muffler. Sitting on top of building, but a muffler all the same. Must have previously been attached to a very big car.
Love the contrasting color of the wood patio cover up on top of Ackerman union in comparison with the UCLA colors of the walls and the trees in the foreground.
Ethereal bridge floating between two engineering buildings. Not the place to be playing rambunctiously.
Every now and again I'm upstairs near this construction, but I still don't know what it is.
Camping on campus. Tent and canoe. What every engineer needs.
Close up of canoe. Seems to be constructed of a single piece of injection molded plastic.
Concrete snake over the new bomb shelter student center posing in front of the Molecular Biology Institute in the background.
This guy appears to be giving directions with his stubby little hand. Every fire plug needs a 3 foot high base to stand on, the easier to look dogs in the eye before they piss on the fire hydrant.
UCLA Geyser. There are several of these coming out of the biology building. This is the one with the darkest vapor stream coming out of the building. The water appears to disincentivize the plants from growing right by the geyser.
Oh those wacky grad students. When the white boards are full, they'll find a filth covered window for writing equations on.
On the right: a closed one way exit only door. The sign on the left: a signal to handicap folks that they had better go to the left around the building, because if they go to the right, they'll be stuck in a one way out passageway, until someone finds them. UCLA has a lot of this sort of helpful signage.

Nature and Concrete
Plants in harmony with brick and concrete.
Two branches dying on the vine attached to brick.
Many plants adhering to the concrete.
Leaves departing the main branch for further adventure.

UCLA buildings at night
It is often darkest just before dawn. -- Sojourner Truth
The camera doesn't always take great pictures at night. Still, these came out well. Some monolithic buildings, a hallway and a hovercraft. Who says UFOs are dead?
Photo of a hovercraft entered the underground passageway to Hades. This road goes under the football practice field. Not that I've ever seen a football floating over the field.
Clearance. Sale? Under the practice field.
The transportation services building as castle. The moon is rising on the left over the engineering building.
Corridor at night in the transportation services building. They can afford a nice looking exterior building.
Nighthawks, police station style. With lamppost. What photo is fully ready without a lamppost front and center?
Our heros, EMT truck and Culver City bus.

Astigmatism and the moon
UCLA at night. Ok, early morning. These two photos are of the same image, two lights with the moon directly overhead. Neither is a classical photographic image, but I enjoy the different blurs. Besides, the first image is what the moon really looks like when I take my glasses off.

Canyon Country Urban Landscape
And a bonus. The road Humphrey Bogart took in Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Or not. But it always reminds me of that movie. Of course, I haven't seen it in 40 years or so. But mostly the urban landscape of Canyon Country. Where the heat is enough to desiccate a feller by the time he makes it to the local five and dime. Where lizards, owls, crows and coyotes live to tell the tail. Where pets are scared if they're not actually lunch or road kill. Where the limes and figs and peaches make the trees sag during fruit season. Where the pools reek of chlorine as they glisten in the brutal sunlight.
What's the first thing every passenger sees at the beginning of a trip? Not in a stage coach, but in your Toyota Sienna Madre. A glove compartment of course. Not that anyone but OK Simpson might keep his gloves here.
Blue and desert scrub and a dead end road. Humphrey, turn around and try another route.
Stoppin' in at the old Target' is a surefire thirst quencher. Though there's naught for the horses.
Here's the right route. Off in the distance is gold. Jes' follow the freeway. Actually, the gold is a bit behind us. Followin' this freeway'll jes get ye' to Palmdale. Backwards a bit will get you to where gold was first discovered in California.
Intrepid vehicles returning from a trip to find gold. Perhaps going to spend it?
Signs and stores underneath desert mountain scrub. Lots of business going on. Flu shots, dentistry, food and styles for less, right turns. And look at the shadows on the Walgreen letters. Sun is almost straight overhead. Time to take refuge from the baking heat.

Some shots at the UCLA Sunset Rec area, a mix of sports facility and sky shots.
Geometric pattern of lights over tennis courts and a dorm.
Diving Platform.
Evening sky over the natatorium. Well, except that it is outdoor.
Factor building in distance above diving platform.
Early evening sky through a hole in the parking structure.
